The results are in and Subaru has once again come up tops in the IIHS ratings for 2020 models available in America. We already reported earlier this year on being awarded for "Best in Class Car of 2019" By the EuroNCAP for the Forester. Following on this Subaru has now collected 9 IIHS Safety awards.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is an independent organization that is supported by the insurance associations in America. They are dedicated to reducing deaths, injuries and damage to property from car accidents. The IIHS does similar safety testing to the NCAP safety tests that are conducted in Europe, Japan and Australia. Both institutes provide safety ratings for all manufacturers.

Pedestrians – A main focus

In the past the main focus of these safety ratings was on the damage to the vehicle and injuries sustained by vehicle occupants. This has recently change to include pedestrians as well as child occupants. With this inclusion the standards of safety being tested are more stringent than ever. Newer standards will push manufacturers to implement new safety innovations to keep ahead. All of this is a great benefit to the consumers as it means safer vehicles on the road.

Subaru tied for the most total IIHS award for 2020 with four Top Safety Pick+ awards and five Top Safety Pick awards.
