IIHS Safety Awards for 2021

The Top Safety Pick+ is the highest rating that is given by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). In America the IIHS is responsible for the safety ratings that manufacturers receive. Much like NCAP, ANCAP and JNCAP that are responsible for the ratings in Europe, Australia and Japan. These organisations are in charge of putting cars through rigorous tests, including crash testing. Safety tests allow consumers to make a more informed decision when purchasing a car. They also help to better safety regulations in the automotive industry.

Some of the results for Subaru

South Africa has recently started doing crash testing to the same standards as overseas. Currently it is being run by the AA South Africa in conjunction with Global NCAP. This program was launched in 2017 and they have tested a variety of small compact vehicles, sedans and bakkies. This is still a new project but the results will benefit consumers, and hopefully help regulate the safety in all cars available in South Africa.
